As we’re all painfully aware, Donald Trump’s relationship with the truth is tenuous at the best of times, and these are certainly not the best of times for the always beleaguered president. Coming off yet another scandal-ridden week, Trump really needed to score a major win with his first State of the Union address. Of course, when it comes to Trump, the bar is now so low that if he can even get through an entire speech without drastically going off message, it’s a victory.

Using that criteria, Trump’s supporters were no doubt happy with his performance. However, it’s obvious that a large portion of Americans was not buying what he was selling. PolitiFact’s website grew overwhelmed by the volume of traffic and crashed for several minutes during the seemingly endless 81-minute speech.

News organizations were also doing their own verifying and kept very busy by ridiculous claims from Trump about saving “beautiful clean coal” (there’s no such thing) and that Obamacare’s individual mandate is now gone (not for another year). Other whoppers include “A single immigrant can bring in virtually unlimited numbers of distant relatives” (nope), “Open borders have allowed drugs and gangs to pour into our most vulnerable communities” (there are no open borders and border arrests have gone for the past few years), “Our massive tax cuts provide tremendous relief for the middle class and small businesses” (again no, but corporations and the wealthy are certainly loving them), “We enacted the biggest tax cuts and reform in American history” (not even close), and “We have sent thousands and thousands and thousands of MS-13 horrible people out of this country or into our prisons” (a serious exaggeration of the already dubious claims given by Attorney General Jeff Sessions).

If you missed it (and really, we don’t blame you), here is the entire speech:
