Fargo woman trying to win magazine cover contest wants to use prize money to help others – InForum

FARGO – While only 246 people worldwide have graced the cover of Maxim Magazine, one Fargo woman has moved closer to that list thanks to a special contest. And it all started with a simple Instagram ad.

“When I submitted, I didn’t really think about it,” Fargo native Brittany VanHorn said. “I just thought, ‘Wouldn’t it be cool if my photos were on Maxim’s Instagram page?'”

Now, VanHorn is a quarter-finalist to be Maxim magazine’s next cover girl. Besides the stain on the cover, the winner receives a trip to Paris for a photo shoot and wins $25,000.

None of this matters to VanHorn. All that matters is helping those who are going through the same domestic violence issues that she went through.

“(I) came up with the idea of creating a website to help victims and survivors of domestic assault and other types of abuse trying to navigate the justice system,” she said. .

VanHorn went through legal process after breaking up with her abusive ex-boyfriend. It was then that she discovered that it was not an easy process.

“It can get so complicated for them that they give up,” she said.

The idea is to start small and help people who are experiencing this problem in the area, and grow in the future. She hopes the money can provide legal aid.

“There are thousands of men and women going through this right now who have no idea what they’re doing, and when you’re the victim of a crime, you’re just thrown in the deep end. and you’re told to swim,” she said.

Voting for the semi-finalists closes August 4 at 7 p.m. PT. Voting is open to the public. You can vote for VanHorn at the link below:
