The 20-year-old singer served as co-chair of the 2021 Met Gala, visited President Biden with her brother Finneas and earned seven Grammy nominations for her album, happier than ever. She’s also on a world tour in support of the album, but that doesn’t mean she’ll be slowing down in the fashion department anytime soon. Known for her eclectic sense of style, Billie has been rocking emo-inspired looks ever since she cut her hair and dyed it black.

In her interview with the magazine, Billie revealed that she was no longer comfortable going out in public once she became famous. She first became aware of it while hanging out and ice skating with friends when she was 16.

“It was a nightmare and it scared me, because I just got turned into a prop,” she said. V. “I’ve never been so scared. It was like a huge jostling… I had put on weight, but I didn’t know it until I was in this situation. Since that day, I haven’t gone anywhere. I did not do anything.

“I was so overwhelmed by what had happened and how helpless I felt,” she continued. “And I didn’t have security because I didn’t have the money for it. I was the fame level that needs security, but also the fame level where you don’t really have the resources.
